Community Guidelines
Last Updated: October 2025
Our Mission: Chatter exists to help people connect and have meaningful conversations with strangers worldwide. These guidelines help keep our community safe and welcoming for everyone.
Core Principles
Be respectful. Be appropriate. Be yourself. That's all we ask.
The Rules
🚫Zero Tolerance: Instant Ban
The following will result in immediate and permanent removal from Chatter:
- Nudity or Sexual Content: No exposed genitals, buttocks, or female breasts. No sexual acts or sexually suggestive behavior. This includes wearing only underwear or being partially undressed.
- Child Safety Violations: Any content involving minors in inappropriate contexts will be reported to law enforcement immediately.
- Illegal Activity: Promoting, facilitating, or engaging in illegal activities including drug sales, violence, or fraud.
- Self-Harm or Suicide: Showing or encouraging self-harm, suicide, or dangerous behaviors.
⚠️Serious Violations: Likely Ban
These behaviors are prohibited and typically result in bans:
- Harassment or Bullying: Repeatedly targeting someone with unwanted contact, insults, or threats.
- Hate Speech: Attacking people based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics.
- Threats or Violence: Threatening harm to yourself, others, or property.
- Doxxing: Sharing someone's personal information (real name, address, phone number, etc.) without consent.
- Sexual Harassment: Making unwanted sexual comments, requests, or advances.
🚨Prohibited Behavior
- Spam and Advertising: No commercial promotions, spam, or repetitive messaging. Don't advertise products, services, or other websites.
- Impersonation: Don't pretend to be someone else, including celebrities, public figures, or Chatter staff.
- Scams or Fraud: No deceptive practices, phishing attempts, or financial scams.
- Circumventing Bans: Using VPNs or other methods to evade bans will result in extended restrictions.
- Coordinated Harassment: Organizing raids or mass reporting against other users.
What's Okay
✅Acceptable Use
- Having friendly conversations and meeting new people
- Discussing hobbies, interests, and appropriate topics
- Sharing music, art, or creative content (that doesn't violate rules)
- Respectfully ending conversations you're not interested in
- Using the skip button to find someone new
- Reporting users who break the rules
Dress Code
Be appropriately clothed. Think of it like this: if you wouldn't wear it to a family restaurant, don't wear it on Chatter.
✅ Acceptable: Shirts, t-shirts, tank tops, regular clothing you'd wear in public
❌ Not Acceptable: Shirtless (unless at a pool/beach with clear context), underwear only, see-through clothing, clothing that exposes private areas
Language and Communication
- Be Respectful: Treat others how you'd want to be treated
- No Excessive Profanity: Some cursing is okay, but don't be aggressive or abusive
- Respect Boundaries: If someone says they're uncomfortable, change the topic or skip
- No Slurs or Hate Speech: This includes racial, homophobic, or other discriminatory language
Privacy and Safety Tips
Protect Yourself:
- Don't share personal information: No full names, addresses, phone numbers, social media handles, or school/work info
- Don't click suspicious links: Users may try to send you to dangerous websites
- Use the skip button: You can leave any conversation at any time, no explanation needed
- Report inappropriate behavior: Use the report button to flag rule violations
- Trust your instincts: If something feels wrong, skip immediately
Reporting
When you report someone:
- Video mode: We capture a screenshot of their camera
- Text mode: We save the conversation log
- Reports are reviewed by moderators
- False reports or report abuse may result in your own ban
- Serious violations are forwarded to law enforcement when appropriate
How to Report
- Click the red flag icon next to "Stranger"
- Confirm the report
- The moderators will review and take action
Consequences
Depending on the severity of the violation:
- Warning: First-time minor violations may receive a warning
- Temporary Ban: Repeated or moderate violations result in IP bans
- Permanent Ban: Serious violations result in permanent IP bans
- Legal Action: Illegal content is reported to authorities
Appeals
If you believe you were banned unfairly, there is limited appeal options. Most bans are final, especially for serious violations. The best way to avoid bans is to follow these guidelines.
Age Verification
While we require users to be 18+, we don't have active age verification. If you encounter someone who appears to be underage:
- Immediately skip the conversation
- Report the user
- Do not engage in any inappropriate discussion
Content Moderation
We use a combination of:
- User Reports: Community reporting is our primary moderation tool
- Automated Detection: Some violations may be caught automatically
- Human Review: Moderators review reported content
Special Circumstances
Cultural Differences
Chatter is used worldwide. What's acceptable in one culture may not be in another. When in doubt, err on the side of caution and respect.
Technical Issues
If someone appears to violate rules due to technical issues (frozen video, glitched camera), give them the benefit of the doubt and skip if you're uncomfortable.
Updates to Guidelines
We may update these guidelines as our community grows and new issues arise. Check back regularly to stay informed.
Remember:
Chatter is a privilege, not a right. By following these simple guidelines, you help create a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Respect others, stay appropriate, and have fun meeting new people!
Questions?
If you're unsure whether something violates these guidelines, ask yourself: "Would I be comfortable with my family seeing this?" If the answer is no, don't do it.
